Kids Acts Philippines presents: Romeo & Juliet

Where Thou Art, Romeo?

THE Well love classic love story of the famous star crossed lovers Romeo and Juliet is now being staged as musical in Manila Theater by Kids Acts Philippines. It’s an adaptation solely based 100% on original story by the great William Shakespeare.  However it is simplified without sacrificing the original text so the young adults can understand and comprehend on how the play is written.

Edited with additional lyrics by Luigi Nacario and music by Eugene Belbis, Romeo is being played by Derrick Gozos and Gian Gloria as Juliet. It was staged in Star Theater of Star City last Oct 24 & 25, 2014 as initial season offering but will have a major full run in 2015.

Earle Figuracion
Stage Actor Earle Figuracion who plays Mercutio and the understudy for Romeo caught our attention, he play his role really in character and shine well among the rest even just for a short appearance.  Other cast are Ces Dela Cruz as the nurse, Melisa Camba as Lady Capulet, Ina Salonga as Rosaline, Meyanne Plamenio as Lady Montague, Kendrick Ibasco as Tybalt, Terrence Guillermo as Lord Capulet,  and Jonathan Rabanzo as lord Montague.

The artistic team of Romeo and Juliet is composed of Belbis (Composer/Orchestration), Christian Bautista for the lighting design, Emma Doverte as the production manager, Stage Manager Jasvir Basra and overall direction by Nacario,

I haven't seen a Romeo and Juliet play but I'm a fan of the novel. I should watch plays more often so that I can see in action what the novel is all about.

Kanser 2018, the latest take on Noli Me Tangere.

One iconic Philippine theatre experience is Kanser, the stage version of Noli Me Tangere that is written by our National Hero, Dr. Jose Rizal. There are many versions of this play by different theater groups, from musical to straight play. Gantimpala Theater Foundation made it as their own biggest production for so many years, it keep changing and upgrading in many aspects, from color feel, to music ambiance and of course the magnificent cast that is challenge to portray iconic characters onstage. Kanser 2018 proves to adopt the needful in terms of stage show, a showcase of photos and some graphics is on the projector during the performances, some new twist in some remarkable scenes is implemented, like the slapping scene of Maria Clara and Padre Salvi which the audience find it humorous. But the kissing scenes of Crisostomo and Maria Clara is always the favorite mostly by the students, they feel the “kilig” somehow.

Guadalupe The Musical, our miracle in Theater.

With the biggest Jackpot now in Ultra Lotto, everybody is asking for miracle, that they can have the winning number combination, that they win the jackpot and change their lives forever. Guadalupe The Musical, Julie Borromeo’s Performing Arts Foundation, Inc current theater offering will help you realize that, there are miracles in life that we forgot to acknowledge, this are little miracles that we encounter in our daily lives, that instead of saying thank you, we ignore it because we aspire to be bigger, but this play made me realize a common cliché, sometimes dreams happen for those who are deserving to make it a reality, and that person don’t ask for that.
It is a superb musical to watch out for, even for non-Catholic it is worth a try due to its entertainment value, from the lighting design by John Batalla, the beautiful costumes, the wonde…
