A New building, and a lot more shows this 2017 at CCP.

The premiere Arts venue capital in the country, The Cultural Center of the Philippines is in full swing, gearing towards to more dynamic and a lot of shows to watch out for this 2017.

A new building for CCP to start construction, some minor renovation of its existing facility, and the launching of the first ever Encyclopedia of Philippine Arts, and the more exciting continuation of its many Art Festivals will soar high this 2017.

CCP Vice President and Artistic Director Chris Millado recently announce this plan for this year, including its first offering, the The Noli Me Tangere opera. Millado said that they continue to gather more audiences, because they still remain the country’s art facility that embrace all kinds or form arts.

For its many festivals, the Virgin Labfest will be move to the Littler Theater this year, in order to accommodate more theatre aficionados, as well as Animahinasyon that recently create great impact for Filipinos, that we can produce good animated movies, it also resulted for adding a new section for Cinemalaya this year, which is the animation part.  Pasinaya Palihan at Palabas also added number days to cater many people.

Indak Filipinas, Dance Dance Asia, and the Andrea O. Veneracion International Choral Festival will still be at its best this 2017, but a new Festival will be born this year and its called Pista ni Rizalina, that will give tribute to Martial Law victims.

For visual arts, National Artist Cesar Legazpi works will top billed in showcasing all its masterpieces as part of its Centennial celebration. And for Theater, Changing Partner is moving to CCP for major shows, as well as Millado’s own works, “Buwan at Baril sa Eb Major”.

The new CCP building is to be unveil before the year end, it will be called Black Box Theater or Tanghalang Ignacio to be constructed by Leandro Locsin and associates, this P2 Billion funded project will have a time frame of three years in time for CCP’s 5oth Year anniversary. It will be built at the back of the existing building that will have its own commercial centers, a six rehearsal centers for artists and new performing center.

Millado clarify that once the new building is up, the old CCP will undergo a major renovation. The said project was approved during the term of President Benigno Aquino, but its funding is not yet fully subsidized since they are still raising funds for its interior decorations.

Other events to watch out for in CCP this 2017 includes a solo concert by Lea Salonga, new series of Opera, Gawad CCP, Fringe Manila and the return of Symphonic Aegis by the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra.

A throwback of love in concert.

Come heart’s day, six OPM artist who popularize songs that talk about matters of the heart, will be in one show to celebrate the universal language of all time, which is love.

For the second time around, #LoveThrowback is making a comeback at Philippine International Convention Center featuring two Kilabot ng Koliheyala from different generation, Hajji Alejandro and Ariel Rivera. Alejandro is notable for hits like May Minamahal, Nakapagtataka, Panakip Butas and others, while Rivera is identified with Sana Kahit Minsan, Ayoko Na Sana and Minsan Lang Kita Iibigan.

Pinoy band royalties Joey Generoso of Side A band and Jinky Vidal is also in the line up, their immortal hits include So Many Questions, Forevermore, Tell Me for Joey, and So Slow, One Hello and If I Believe are among monsters classic of Vidal.

Asian Pop Star Christian Bautista is joining this year’s throwback team, for sure he will sing “The Way You Look At Me” on this concert at 8pm on February 14.

Completing the group is the soul siren Nina, she is one of the original artist in the first throwback concert last year, her soulful songs like Love Moves in Mysterious Ways, I Love You Goodbye and Through The Fire is definitely in the track that night.

Royal Chimes Concerts & Events Inc didn’t discuss the flow or the sequence of the concert during its Presscon recently, however they assure everyone that it will be a good show for all lovers, that will celebrate Valentines with them, production numbers and some songs collaborations is expected as well.

There is no other like Jason Dy.

MCA Music Inc of Philippines and Malaysia recently did a collaboration of their two artist, for one song that break barriers and boundary, and prove that love is universal no matter what race or color you are. This the song Nothing Like Pag-Ibig written by Filipino hit maker Jungee Marcelo wherein The Voice-Ph season 2 grand winner Jason Dy and Malaysian singer, actress and TV Host Fazura commission to record it as duet piece.

In a Blogcon prepare for Dy recently, he admit that he is thankful for this project, he believe that the main reason why he was chosen among MCA roster of singers, is his style or his genre affiliated which is R&B to which Fazura is also in it.

“We share the same style, some genre, I think with song it will work with her voice and my voice as well, sabi nila we look good together.” Dy said.

Nothing Like Pag-Ibig is a single and was officially release in different digital downloading sites worldwide last January 20. Jason said that the said song will be part of his second album that will be release third quarter of this year.

Fazura, a singer, actress, model TV host and star of the E! Reality show “Facing Up To Fazura”, travelled to Manila last November of 2016 to record this single.

Nothing Like Pag-Ibig is a perfect song for the coming Valentines day, it is available on streaming like Spotify, Apple Music, Spinnr and Deezer, and for downloads it is on in Spinner and Itunes under MCA Music.

“It’s a song about love, its a simple concept, may kurot sa dibdib. It’s been a great experience working with Fazura and I’m really proud of the song, sana magustuhan ng mga tao.” Dy added.

Jason recently was seen acting via soap opera “Be My Lady” as a nurse friend of its lead star Erich Gonzales, he recall the experience as a welcoming change for him since it’s his first acting job, and he is hoping that there will be more to come, he look forward to be pair with Fazura sometimes in the near future if given a chance.  He still eye Liza Soberano as his ultimate crush in Philippine showbiz.

Introducing “Kapitan Kalikasan”, the new age Superhero from Palawan.

Before 2016 ends, the resident and home grown studio of Film maker Dante Nico Garcia that is based in Puerto Princesa City this past years, introduce his latest creations via a multi media film series called “Kapitan Kalikasan” under the direction of his protégée Rocky Austria-Pagliawan.

The premiere held at Robinson Mall Palawan last Dec 24, wherein the almost 17minute film give a glimpse of what to expect  on this new age super hero that is task in saving the environment, making things clean and creating a better place for everyone.

It open with a 3minute animation featuring a kid opposing a soon to be enemy, and the introduction of his power courtesy of a mystical and talking grasshopper. Kapitan Kalikasan top billed Quatro Tagapulot and a lot more of young Palawan’s upcoming talents, all products of Garcia’s workshop under Life College.

The opening teaser features scenic and ideal products of Puerto Princesa, a group of teenage guys discussing the benefits of home grown honey while dealing with hugot lines from the film Ploning, and two kids who deeply talk about love and trying to understand its circumstances.

The teaser however didn’t provide much clue on the main story, the establishing of its main characters are not all clear, and how they will connect to each other. One confusing plot is the mala-fairy love angle that was supposed to be told by one of those guys hanging out in a bar. The closing part is much more interesting since the all new animated Kapitan Kalikasan goes out of the Underground River, while two more clue from a blacksmith and lady kid is shown before the end credits start.

Garcia when ask, inform us that the said teaser is just a start of a big project being cook, Kapitan Kalikasan is originally plan as a theatre musical that will open on April 30 of 2018 that hopefully will be destination itsel in Palawan . But for now a teaser is uploaded and it will be a series, via all social media forms such as Instagram, Facebook and Youtube.

 The second instalment is due to be released worldwide via free streaming this coming Black Saturday of Lenten season, and the third is on July 7 in time for the Let The River Rest event of Isda Revolution, while the fourth series is scheduled in the traditional December affair of Garcia’s Ploning anniversary.

Ephesus Teatron Group Opens 2017 with Once Upon A Mattress.

The parody on the story of The Princess and the Pea by Hans Christian Anderson, is making a Philippine theatre premiere this January 20 to 22 at the Tanghalang Yaman Ng Lahi Theater of Emilio Aguinaldo College in Ermita Manila, this is Once Upon A Mattress from the book by Jay Thompson, Marshall Barer and Dan Fuller and Music by Mary Rodgers.

The Manila staging is produce as their opening salvo for 2017 by Ephesus Teatron Group, Inc. They are the company behind the staging of Once on This Island and The Ants and the Grasshoppers and other Children theater production.

Sweet Samaniego-Buchanan, President and Artistic Directror of Ephesus said during its launching, that they are mostly product of Repertory Philippines, and base on their trust, they want to provide unique style of innovative and engaging theater to all schools of all levels.

Directing Once upon a Mattress is Steven Conde from Twin Bill Theater, who made noise recently for his Suicide Inc and Dog Sees God production. Conde reveal that it is lighter for him this time since the topic is not that heavy to absorb, he point out that this Once Upon A Mattress is a mobile theater that they want to introduce, it is a moving production to sum it all.

Buchanan also emphasize that the choice of their venue is perfect and a good move, maybe not a usual venue for theatre goers, but she assure that Tanghalang Yaman Lahi Theater is quality at par for any production, it is the venue of their past shows as well. Buchanan is also playing Princess No. 12 in the said play.

Once Upon A Mattres is story of one kingdom where the King is cursed and his Queen take over to control the land, but his son, Prince Dauntless must find his Princess, but thge terror Queen must do something to prevent it from happening, she sets rules and audition process for the Princess to be, and thats where Princess Winnifred story begun.

Miss Saigon alumna Carla Guevara-Laforteza with Cara Barredo alternately play the role of Princess Winnifred the Woebegone, while The Voice finalist Nino Alejandro will act as Prince Dauntless. Milay Guinid is the terror Queen Aggravain, while Hans Eckstein and Chino  Villegas alternately play Sir Harry, the Queen’s Champion arms.  Playing King Sextimus is Raymund Concepcion.

Other cast include Arion Sanchez, Steven Hotchkiss, Onyl Torres, Alex Dagalea, Yanah Laurel, Jill Ita-as, Ayam Eckstein, Tina Macaraeg, Mica Fajardo, Meggy Katigbak, Nicole Herrera, Ash factor, Vincent Pajara, Josh Cabiladas Gry Gimena and Edrie Tan.

Artistic Team includes Pip Cefra and Jay Pangilinan for the music, Joseph Mattheu is the light designer, Stephen Vinas for the Choreography and Kayla Teodoro for the costume and set design.

Noli Me Tangere in CCP, this time an Opera.

The revolutionary Filipino classic novel that shape the nation, from National Hero Dr. Jose Rizal, his immortal Noli Me Tangere is opening this 2017 at the main theater of Cultural Center of the Philippines, and this time it’s an Opera, showcasing full length music by National Artists Felipe De Leon and Guillermo Tolentino.

Producing the show is the J&S Production all the way from New York USA, they are behind its staging way back 2014 at the Resort World. And for its 60th year, The Noli Me Tangere The Opera is making a comeback in CCP under the direction of Jerry Sibal with the newly formed 53 piece Noli Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Maestro Herminigildo Ranera.

Sibal is also the producer along with his partner Edwin Josue, during its launching recently Sibal point out that it is his passion to teach the new generations about the lesson of the past, and with Noli Me Tangere he is sure that it’s still relevant in this new age of media, where millennia’s need to absorb more for the good of the country.

“The story is timeless, very relevant, if you read the novel and see whats happening right now, Noli is like 200 years ago, but it’s still happening, we never learn, we always go back, let’s move forward and it’s time for you to change, empower yourself, thats why we are doing this.” Sibal said.

Renowned tenor Ronan Ferrer play the role of Crisostomo Ibarra along with Bianca Camille Lopez as Maria Clara, Stephanie Anne Aguilar as Sisa, John Andrew Fernandez as Padre Damaso, Greg De Leon is Elias, Marj Yapjoco is Basilio and Santino Juan Santiago will portray Crispin.

Noli Me Tangere in latin is Touch Me Not in English was published in 1887, that follow the story of Ibarra who return home in the Philippines after finishing studies in Europe, he plan to marry Maria Clara but Padre Damaso is so against it. It talks about forbidden love, betrayal and revenge.

This 60th year anniversary presentation according to Sibal cost P35 million for just six days of presentation, there are around 60 to 70 singers with 200 production people behind it’ staging, there are around 16 set design changes for the duration of the Opera that will occupy the main stage of the theatre. He is happy that CCP is helping them to mount this production as opening salvo for 2017. Tickets prices start at P3500, P2500, P2000, P1500, P1200 and P1000.

“Mahirap talaga to produce this one, nobody would understand it, but if you come and see yourself what will gonna present, you will understand na ganun siya kamahal.” Sibal added.
