Tanghalang Pilipino and Japan Foundation, join hands for the production of “MANILA NOTES”

A scene from "Manila Notes".
Tanghalang Pilipino (TP) along with the Japan Foundation, Manila (JFM), in partnership with the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) present "Manila Notes", as part of TP 32nd season production from November 30 to December 16, 2018, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, at 3PM and 8PM, at the CCP Tanghalang Aurelio Tolentino (Little Theater).

Adapted from Tokyo Notes, written by internationally acclaimed Japanese playwright and director Oriza Hirata. The play is one of the most critically acclaimed works of Hirata, which has been translated into 13 languages for productions in many cities around the world.

To make sure that the Japanese material communicates well with the local Filipino audience, the Palanca Hall of Fame writer Rody Vera has been working with Hirata on the adaptation together with the twenty (20) leading Filipino actors. Hirata introduced to the actors his acting style called “contemporary colloquial theater theory,” which is entirely different from Western acting techniques.

This technique, created by Hirata to counter the traditional loud theater seen in Japan, has been received by the world to great acclaim. This, apart from the stellar cast and artistic staff, gives the audience another great reason to watch this acclaimed production.

The artistic team, actors and production staff have been actively involved in the process of creating a brand-new type of theater practice through workshops, rehearsals and discussions. Lastly, the set design is also a collaboration by an acclaimed Japanese set designer, Itaru Sugiyama and select theater practitioners and students in Manila.

Tokyo Notes is inspired by Yasujiro Ozu’s film “Tokyo Story”—the story of Manila Notes takes place in the lobby of an art museum in Manila sometime in the near future. A major war is being waged in Europe and many paintings have been moved to the various cities in Asia. In front of such paintings, family members, friends and lovers continue their fragmentary conversations on taking care of their aging parents, inheritance, future careers, and love, among others. With the backdrop of a distant war, the play clearly portrays how Filipinos live their everyday lives, which reveal a whole range of problem and crisis of our modern society.

Manila Notes boasts of the some of the most versatile performers on the Philippine stage today: Meann Espinosa, a Philippine Educational Theater Association (PETA) actor, and Mayen Estañero, a TP Actors Company alumna, lead the cast, which also include some of theater’s finest: Former TP Artistic Director Dennis Marasigan, Gie Onida, Ian Segarra, J-Mee Katanyag, Neomi Gonzales, Wenah Nagales, Kathlyn Castillo, Randy Villarama, and Elle Velasco. Together with them are some of the members of the TP Actors Company: Jonathan Tadioan, Marco Viaña, Lhorvie Nuevo, Antonette Go, Joshua Tayco and Manok Nellas. The young, talented actors from different universities, Micah Musa from UPLB, Manuel Tinio from De La Salle University, and Manjean Faldas from the DLSU-College of St. Benilde, complete the cast.

These actors were carefully selected after an open audition last September, conducted by Prof. Hirata, himself.

What's inside the Dressing Room?

The 43rd Season of Dulaang UP definitely has a great line up of Plays. For their second offering , Dulaang UP chose to stage a play about the theater, a 1997 Japanese play called "The Dressing Room" by Shimizu Kunio.

As DUP usually does, they would be staging in parallel both an English and a Filipino version of this play. The English version was written by Chiori Miyagawa, as adapted from the original English translation by John Gillespie. The Filipino translation is by multiple Palanca award-winning playwright Nicolas Pichay.

Always making sure that they push limits, Dulaang UP also pushes the envelope further by innovating on the casting as well. The original play involved four actresses playing the four actress characters. The English version will stay faithful to this casting. To put a twist in Filipino version, however, the four actress characters will all be played by male actors. I believe this is a great way to kind of put things into perspective.

The dressing room is literally where the action of this play is set. Initially, we see Actress A and Actress B dressed in Japanese-style robes, sitting in the middle of the stage in front of their respective box tables, applying white makeup on their faces. Suddenly, Actress C will enter dressed in Victorian finery, rehearsing her lines. Much later, an Actress D will come into the room to tell Actress C that she wants her role back. The whole play will be about the actresses' musings about Shakespeare and especially Chekhov as they reflect on the passions and frustrations they have about their acting careers.
Theater actors and theater fans will definitely fall in love with the intense love for theater espoused by this play. When sentimental Actress A and acerbic Actress B have an acting showdown playing Lady Macbeth, the effect was electric. This was even though some essence had been lost with the translation as the difference between two Japanese adaptations should have been highlighted (but obviously could not be conveyed in Filipino). Familiarity with the history of Japanese theater will enhance appreciation since the original Japanese play assumed the Japanese audience it targeted already knew.

The Dressing Room will run at the Wilfrido Ma. Guerrero Theater until November 25, 2018.Make sure to catch it.

Talking About Home Loans

Knowing which home loan to choose is not always easy. Homebuyers who research various types of loans likely know of loans that may suit their need. Because there are many loan options, it may be useful to work with a mortgage broker.

Some homebuyers choose to obtain financing from a credit union, bank or mortgage company. However, these lenders provide traditional financing, and rarely offer loans for people with credit problems.Image result for home credit loans

Comparing home loans is an important step that should not be overlooked. With this said, brokers provide a valuable service that saves time. Online mortgage brokers will locate at least three suitable loans. Brokers email loan offers to the homebuyer. Upon receipt of the offers, buyers must make a side-by-side comparison and pick the best loan offer and some also tries to help you avoidbad credit loans in Tampa.

Types of Home Loans Available

Fortunately, there is a multitude of home loans available. Thus, it is possible for practically anyone to obtain a mortgage regardless of credit. Several lenders specialize in bad credit mortgages. In this case, lenders approve loans to individuals with credit scores as low as 500. Those with low credit scores may also qualify for a “no credit score home loan.”

Furthermore, there are different home loans that involve zero money down. Also termed 100% financing, these loans are offered to good credit and bad credit applicants. In some instances, homebuyers may also acquire 103% and 107% financing.

Other home loan options include “no doc” home loans and stated income loans. Loans of this sort generally require a decent credit rating.

Applying for a Home Loan with Online Broker

Because of the variety of home loans, it would help to use a mortgage broker. Brokers are ideal because they can provide additional knowledge on the types of loans a homeowner can obtain. Once a homebuyer has decided on a particular loan type, the broker’s responsibility entails locating the best loan package.

Applying with an online broker is very simple. Homebuyers complete a quote request with a broker, and the broker matches the buyer with several potential lenders. Lenders will provide a quote, which includes loans terms, interest rate, closing costs, monthly payments, etc.

On Choosing Personal Injury Lawyers

Personal injury attorney advertising is rising rapidly. Every time you turn on your TV or radio there are more personal injury attorney advertisements. Ironically, most personal injury attorneys and, in my opinion, most of the better personal injury attorneys, did not want to advertise and resisted for a long time.
Image result for personal injury lawyer

That is quickly changing. Many of the better personal injury attorneys are now advertising because like it or not, they realize that advertising is not going away. So how does a seriously injured person determine whether a given advertising attorney is one of the better attorneys?

First, the problem: anyone can advertise. Legal experience, skill or expertise in a particular legal specialty is not required to advertise. Attorneys with little or no experience, skill or expertise can advertise heavily in local phone books, billboards, television and radio advertising.

These attorneys can claim huge verdicts where you to live to entice you to call quickly. Unfortunately, such claims may be very misleading. There are too many examples of attorneys with limited or no experience trying cases locally or anywhere else advertising heavily and making such claims. Historically, some of the biggest advertisers did not try cases at all and simply farmed them out to other attorneys in exchange for generous referral fees.

So how do you get beyond the advertisements to find a highly experienced attorney with expertise in your type of case? Think about what you would do before hiring any professional to help you with a very serious matter affecting your life. You would not just respond to the first TV commercial or call the person with the most billboards. You would do some research.
Fortunately there are several easily accessible research tools. You can check the attorneys’ credentials by visiting these personal injury attorney.

“The Best Lawyers in America” is a national organization that lists by specialty the attorneys [and firms] in each geographical who other attorneys rate among the best in their specialty. As you would expect these attorneys are highly experienced in their fields. Look for firms who have several attorneys listed in the personal injury section – attracting such attorneys says a lot about the quality of the firm.
The American Board of Trial Advocates is another excellent resource because it has rigorous admissions standards and only admits highly experienced trial attorneys. This is very important because the better personal injury attorneys are all highly experienced trial attorneys
In serious matters affecting your life you want to know if in addition to superior experience and legal skills, the attorneys and firms also practice at the highest ethical standards. “Martindale-Hubbell” is a highly respected national publication that uses peer reviews to rate attorneys and firms on both the quality of their legal work and their ethical standards. Look for attorneys and firms that receive both an “A,” their highest legal quality grade and a “V” their highest ethical grade.

Additional potential sources are other attorneys or friends and family who are familiar with the legal community. This can be especially helpful if they have had a positive experience with the attorney or firm they are recommending.

After you narrow your search through such inquires and the web sites suggested above, go to the firm's website to learn more about their experience in the specialty that you need. Then meet with the attorney. Ask whether they have taught Continuing Legal Education (CLE) courses. Attorneys who teach these courses are teaching other attorneys and are usually the most experienced and highly respected in their field.

Also ask who will be in charge of your case and who will try it. While it is common for less experienced attorneys to work on your claim, a senior attorney should be involved from start to finish. Your relationship and comfort level with the attorney is important. Look for an attorney that is courteous and is considerate of your time and who is responsive to your calls and questions. Don’t ever feel pressured to make a decision on the spot.

Following the suggestions above should quickly and easily help you get beyond the advertisements and get to a highly experienced attorney with expertise in your type of case.

The Natural Way to Feel More Empowered As a Woman

Gone are the days when the "male chauvinist" society had women as far inferior as men—very dependent and submissive to whatever the latter commanded. Women today are not just regarded as homemakers, but nation-builders as well. Beyond the confines of their houses, they, too, can make a big difference––be it in the economic, social or political arena.

From being a household queen to boardroom’s rockstar, women run on very hectic and active schedules everyday. So imagine the strength they have to withstand the daily grinds, not to mention the stress and pressure they have to endure just to fulfill the duties bestowed upon them.

Nevertheless, they’re no “Wonder Woman” at all, nor our very own heroine “Darna” so as not to feel exhausted and tired from chores or work. They’re also humans, who need to pause for a break from being the jack-of-all-trades.

It’s time to celebrate women empowerment and influence with the gift of beauty and wellness that they truly deserve. What a better way to have it than a rosy, bouncy and shiny hair to begin with.

Because it is the mane that a person is mainly looked upon, it’s a conscious effort for everyone, especially women, to make it pleasant to gaze at. So a regular bottled shampoo and conditioner, plus treatment are, more often than not, the solutions to turn to, regardless of the bad effects they may cause.

Some of the harmful chemicals they contain are too much to handle, especially by as fragile as a hair follicle. Their main damage being mane breakage is hard to manage. Tricky it is to treat the resulting tress that’s less weak and elastic. Though negligible, other repercussions—allergic reaction and scalp irritation—also need keen attention and urgent solution.

Where else do women usually turn to for remedy than a beauty salon. After a pampering sesh, they may opt to avail any of their formulated solution for upkeep. For optimum results, it’s best to combine it with NOVUHAIR 3-in-1 pack to promote robust locks and scalp.

NOVUHAIR is the only tress growth product in the market containing 19 natural herbs, essential oils and co-factor nutrients working synergistically to help remedy mane problems from growth to vanishing. It deeply penetrates to help rejuvenate, nourish, maintain moisture in the scalp and hair, and improve the overall appearance of the tress. Lastly, it’s an effective and safe solution to arrest hair loss.

So come and celebrate womanhood at your favorite salon anytime. Much better if you can make it regularly to bond with your sisters or amigas over a hair spa or treatment. After all, your crowning glory deserves a second look.
