This is “The Quest for the Adarna”, REP’s Theater for Young Audiences (RTYA) season-ender for 2019. A musicale targeting the young kids but will also appeal to the not so young (those who had Ibong Adarna in their schools). The play was written in English for a much wider audience. This was Repertory Theater’s first adaptation of a Filipino classic literature. An adventure themed play set in the magical kingdom of Berbania. Relieve the timeless Filipino classic in a visually interactive theatrical play, done the REP way. A very simple yet effective set, paired with some awesome music and choreography and a powerhouse cast complete this highly engaging show. Everyone who have taken Ibong Adarna in high school can relate to the story of the royal family and the three princes’ quest to capture Adarna to cure their father, King Fernando’s illness. Who’s game for a Lager and Pretzel? : Solaire and German Club Manila’s 81st Oktoberfest

Now on its 81st year, German Club Manila together with Solaire held its press conference for the much awaited and most authentic Oktoberfest Celebration in Manila on October 17 to 19 at the Tent at Solaire. With a goal of bringing the biggest and most authentic Oktoberfest in the country, the halls of the tent were adorned with genuine German-crafted tables and benches- resembling the ambiance of a local Bavarian Oktoberfest Celebration.
The festivity commences with a hearty serving of appetizers. A box of freshly baked bread and pretzels, partly filled those hungry bellies served with a generous Chacuterie platter filled with mouth-watering elegant German cold cuts and local cheeses, and Munich-style sausage salad and potato salad. Though generous in serving, the appetizer selections was just right to prep up your appetite for the feast. The items served will be unlimited on the Oktoberfest itself. Be a songwriter, join Philpop Taga-Alog Boot Camp

From all walks of life, no matter if you’re a student, working at your favorite jobs or just simply got the gift/talent in songwriting, you are what they’re cordially looking for Philpop, they have an intensive class led by no less than National Artist for Music Ryan Cayabyab. It aims to hone the songwriting and performance skills of aspiring music artists. This workshop will be held nationwide offering scholarship programs to 20 outstanding singer-songwriters per cluster, while Taga-Alog 2019, Ilog Pasig:Sulong! Lusong! Is a creative campaign for the promotion of the Ilog Pasig as a space for cultural identity and collective memory. The Company at Stephen Sondheim's Company

Another Stephen Sondheim musical is soon to open in Manila on September 13, Company is under the Direction of Topper Fabregas, according to him, the story about being single has gained a lot of attention, seemingly insignificant word. “There’s no ‘the’ in the title,” he clarifies. “It’s just COMPANY.” Musical Director Rony Fortich concurs: “It’s about companionship,” he declares. “If you say ‘The Company,’ it sounds like it’s about a corporation.” To make matters more complicated, the Tony Award-winning musical comedy stars (among others) OJ Mariano and Sweet Plantado-Tiongson, both from the country’s premier vocal group known as The CompanY… which, to add to the confusion, actually took its name from Sondheim’s show.

Silent Film Festival now in SM Aura

Now on its 13th year, the International Silent Film Festival (ISSF) Manila happened last August 30 to September 1, 2019, at its new home at the Samsung Hall, SM Aura Premier, Taguig City. ISSF is one of the most revered film festivals in Metro Manila as it is not only free, it features live performances of local and foreign bands of different genres as musical accompaniment. One of the featured films is the classic by Kenji Mizoguchi, The Downfall of Osen (1935). It is about a servant girl who did everything to finance the education of a man he loves. The live musical score was served by Kaduma ni Karol, a band from Mindanao that fuses indigenous sounds with contemporary music.

The national orchestra and resident company of the Cultural Center of the Philippines, the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra (PPO) announces its series of shows and programming, the line up of guest artists, soloist, and conductors for its 37th Season for the year 2019-2020.
