Komedya Ng Don Galo’s Senadala At Persyanus

KOMEDYA ng Don Galo presents a new moro moro play, titled “Senadala at Persyanus,” on February 21, 2020, at 3pm, at the Tanghalang Huseng Batute (CCP Studio Theater).

Written and directed by Jess Nazarene Macatuggal, the traditional Philippine theater production portrays the clash of religion, leadership and power between two mythical kingdoms of Senadala and Persyanus and how it is healed by love and peace.

Ruled by Haring Rivero and Reyna Elena, Senadala is a peaceful kingdom caught in the political conflict among neighboring kingdoms.  Meanwhile, Sultan Eleazar, the aggressive leader of Persyanus, has a strong desire to defeat the kingdom of Senadala.

Actors Czarina Mendiola and Shaira Ortiz alternate as Reyna Elena, while actor Klyne Yaba plays Haring Rivero.  Paul Alfonso and Loi Macatuggal portray the Muslim leaders Sultan Eleazar and Sultana Saludinah. Choreography is by Charles Ortiz and Emmanuel Bartolome.

True-blooded komedyantes MJ Calderon, Queenielyn Jimenez, Winzel De Leon, Louie Galilo, Daniel Balanlay, Tommy Nofies, Charles Romero, and students from Don Galo Elementary will take audiences to the new face of Moro Moro in the Philippines, which is no longer about crown and kingdom but about justice and genuine freedom.

More than the fight for crown, Senadala at Persyanus focuses on social issues, religious beliefs, and accepting differences.  It aims to tackle relevant issues of the society and confronts the connotation that Muslim troops are always after war and anarchy.

The moro moro play is the second original production by Komedya ng Don Galo, after the success of Argos at Almohar written by Charles L. Ortiz. Senadala at Persyanus was first presented to the public audience as an excerpt during the 2018 Pasinaya.

The official theatre organization of Brgy. Don Galo, Parañaque City, Komedya ng Don Galo aims to promote, preserve and support the tradition of komedya. It was established by the members of the Parents, Teachers and Community Association (PTCA) of Don Galo Elementary School, headed by Malou Macatuggal, in 2004.  Currently, it is composed of students and young professionals, led by the pioneer batch of the theater group.
