Greatly supported by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) in partnership with the Department of Education (DepEd) and Commission on Higher Education (CHEd), the National Music Competitions for Young Artists (NAMCYA) is resonating forty five years of Filipino music excellence with "TAGINTING" Through decades of the competition since 1973, it has produced, discovered and nurtured choral groups, rondalla ensembles, soloists, educators, researchers and prominent people in various fields.

On July 25, 2018, the official press launch took place at CCP Silangan Hall to unveil this year's lineup. Dr. Renato Lucas, NAMCYA Secretary General welcomed the attendees and Baltazar Endriga, former CCP President and outgoing NAMCYA Chairman introduced the new NAMCYA Board of Trustees. Also present during the launch were Atty. Orly Ocampo, Board of Trustee, Dr. Ramon Santos, National Artist for Music, Margarita Moran, CCP Chairman, Maria Paz Lagdameo, NAMCYA Chairman and Board of Trustee and Virginia Bactad, NAMCYA Board of Trustee. To set the mood on that afternoon and to give a taste of what to expect and enjoy in this year's competition, Manila Symphony Junior Orchestra (MSJO) Quartet peformed Divertimento in D (Mozart) and Handog (Florante/Consolacion). Under the baton of Jeffrey Solares, MSJO returned triumphantly with a First Prize victory in the String Orchestra competition category at the recently concluded 12th Summa Cum Laude International Music Festival held at the Golden Hall of Musikverein in Vienna, Austria.

The newly-organized Kuwerdas Filipinas (Philippine Rondalla Ensemble), composed of the participants of the First Rondalla Music Camp held in Baguio last July 2017, presented Concierto de Aranjuez (Joaquin Rodrigo) and William Tell Overture (Gioachino Rossini). The rest of the young artists who rendered with their chosen repertoire includes on piano, Etude no. 4 Embraceable You (Gershwin-Wild) by Gabriel Allan Paguirigan and Radnel Olfasa, tenor and Nicole Pugeda, soprano with Pakiusap (Francisco Santiago) and Makikiliti Ka (Severino Reyes).
Symphony Orchestra and Rondalla Ensemble performance at The CCP and Symphony Band Concert at Ayala Museum. NAMCYA will kick-off a string center stage performance and celebration with "Minsan Lang Kami Maging Musiko" slated on August 15, 2018 at 8:00 pm, Tanghalang Nicanor Abelardo (CCP Main Theater). The concert will feature NAMCYA winners, the Manila Symphony Junior Orchestra, Kuwerdas Pilipinas, world renowned Filipino choir Novo Concertante Manila and international opera singers Jonathan Badon and Stefanie Quintin. Next in the series that will captivate everyone's heart with "Serenata Sa Ayala" slated on August 29, 2018 at 6:30 pm, Ayala Museum. Presented in partnership with Ayala Museum, it will be a night of classical, contemporary and Filipino music eargasm featuring Cardona Ocho Band (2016 NAMCYA Youth Symphonic Band, 1st Prize Winner) conducted by Franz Ramirez (2008 NAMCYA Oboe Category, 1st Prize Winner), Gabriel Allan Paguirigan (2015 NAMCYA Piano Category, 1st Prize Winner) and Raymond Sarreal (5-time NAMCYA Flute Category, 1st Prize Winner). Last in the series will feature outstanding and world class performances in the event dubbed as "Bayan Ng Musika, Alay Ng NAMCYA" slated on October 26, 2018 at Tanghalang Nicanor Abelardo (CCP Main Theater). Featuring the ABS-CBN Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Maestro Gerard Salonga and Professor Renato Lucas with Diomedes Saraza on piano, multi-awarded baritone Andrew Fernando, international soprano Rachelle Gerodias and Radnel Ofalsa and Nicole Pugeda (2017 NAMCYA Senior Voice Category winners).

Band and Percussion Workshop Series Sponsored by the Metro Manila Development Authority, Saturnino Tiamson Jr. (2016 Ten Outstanding Young Men, Awardee), is spearheading a group of trainers for a Brass and Percussion Workshop exclusively for MMDA Drum and Bugle Corps from July 30 to August 1, 2018. Meanwhile, NAMCYA and JB Music will present a Percussion Workshop at Imus, Cavite from 4 to 5 August 2018. The Traditional Music Workshop will be announced during the Regional semifinals in September. Gian Vergel, Ryan Peralta, Karmi Santiago, Jacques Rivas Dufourt, IYSB Drumline, Brigada and Gip Chan from Hongkong will serve as facilitators. Registration for the workshop is free. Annual Music Competition Category This year's music competition category includes Junior Voice, Junior Piano, Junior Strings, Guitar and Youth Solo Rondalla Instrument (Solo Category) and Children's Rondalla Ensemble, Youth Choir - Equal Voices, Youth Choir - Mixed Voices and Traditional Music for solos and ensembles (Group Category. The halls of the CCP will be filled with heartfelt music by these young Filipino musicians as they compete during the National Music Week from 20 to 25 November 2018.
